A Healthy Porridge and JING Green Tea Pairing

As far as breakfasts go, there is little else as versatile as porridge, despite its humble appearance. Simply water (or milk) and oats, you could be forgiven for thinking porridge dull or 'samey', but you couldn't be further from the truth if you considered porridge as your base for an exploration of flavours. Then, suddenly, porridge becomes exciting indeed. Leave your water or milk to infuse in fragrant teas like Earl Grey or Chai first; stir in a seasonal jam; top with nuts and seeds; or, go savoury... there are countless combinations to play with.

This recipe almost makes a brunch of porridge. Pair it with a light and vegetal green tea - such as our JING organic Jade Sword, which is sweet, delicate and nutty - and consider your morning complete. 

Simply make a base of plain porridge and top with kale sautéed with a little coconut oil, chilli and garlic, sliced avocado, crumbled feta, and a poached egg. A sprinkling of chives adds a little visual flare.

Don’t forget to make your green tea with 80-degree water. If you don’t have a temperature-controlled kettle, just add 20% cold water first and top up with boiling. This ensures your green tea tastes sweet and spring-like, without a hint of bitterness.
