He took a cheeky Boom break and played on the West End hit Dreamgirls and went onto travel around world to showcase his talent, now Mikey is back and ready to turn up the heat with you in the studios. Let's find out more about him!
Where were you born/Where did you grow up?
I was born in Coventry, but after a few moves around the country, my family home, where I grew up for the majority of my life, is in Ipswich.
When you’re not at BOOM, where are you?
I’m either at the gym, in a dance studio, or annoying my other half; fellow BOOM instructor, Aaron!
What’s your life motto?
I actually have 2:-
“The only person you can truly depend on, is yourself!” AND
“Dress like you’ve got somewhere better to go after!”
What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
I don’t know when I became this person, but the first thing I do these days, is check the news updates. It’s important to be aware of current affairs.
If you can have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I freakin’ love Lasagne. Oh and Quiche… and KFC… sorry, that was 3!
Friday night/Sunday afternoon - where can we find you?
Fridays and Saturdays are usually work days so I’ll be easy to find, but #sundayfunday could take me anywhere!... So follow my insta to keep updated! @Michaelafemare ;)
#1 Life hack?
Hotels with no irons are a nightmare. But all hotels have hairdryers! Splash a tiny bit of water on the creases in your garms, and you can literally blow dry them out. Not too close though!!
Can you remember your first Boom experience?
My first boom experience was a few years ago. The first class I ever had the pleasure of riding was a now ex-Boom’er, Gabby. In one of her coaching moments she said, “No matter how hard whatever you’re going through today may seem, remember, you’ve faced hard times before and seen the other side. Persevere; the hard times don’t last forever.” It stuck with me because I was really going through it that day, so its like she saw me, saw my wounded soul, and gave it a hug!
What’s your teaching style? What sets you apart from other instructors?
My teaching style, for lack of a better word, is CAMP! I just try to be me, but like ALL OF ME. I’m sassy, I’m in your face, I’m your best friend, I’m a nuisance, I’m your biggest cheerleader.
Best part of being an instructor?
The best part is seeing the transformation of every rider in those 45 minutes. Whether you’re working out some tension from a hard day, or going through some personal drama, everyone leaves the room feeling reborn. So to be a part of the metamorphosis; to see everyone rejuvenated, that’s the best part.
Favourite way to sweat other than BOOM?
That’s an easy one! Shaking what my momma gave me! Usually in a dance class... (but occasionally in the club!)
Piece of advice for first time boomers?
What are you afraid of? Having a good time? Listening to great music? Being in a supportive environment working toward the ultimate goal of being the best YOU possible? Jump in, we’ve all got you, boo!
